I am so excited to share “What’s New” within the technology world here at The Midland School. Over the past couple of weeks, Midland has been working hard in providing the students and teachers with the latest technology that can be used in the classroom in order to provide them with access to various types of software and interactive activities on the internet. Below are a few of the new items/ software that are accessible to our students, teachers, and now to you the parents. You will begin getting information from your child’s teacher on how to access these sites for use in the home. If you click on each banner, it will take you to that website for further information for you to check out.
BrainPop, Jr is a group of educational Websites with over 1,000 short animated movies for students in grades K-12, along with quizzes and related materials covering various subjects. The videos and materials are designed to engage students and assist teachers and home schoolers. The site features animated games, movies and activities centered on general learning topics. which is intended for students in kindergarten to third grade. These activities are aligned to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards. Click onto picture to go to that website.
Scholastic News is a weekly nonfiction print and digital magazine for various grades and classrooms. It provides the most-taught science, social studies, and safety topics to create a multimedia curriculum. The articles focus on building content knowledge, vocabulary, and early reading skills. The magazines get more challenging throughout the school year as your child becomes a better readers. The online version provides not only the magazine with Text-to-speech but also nonfiction videos, vocabulary words with photos and definitions, skill-building games, and printable activity pages. All digital issues, videos, and printables are also available in Spanish. Teachers will send home information on how to access this site so that you can use it at home.
