Midland’s Extended School Year Program
The Midland Extended School Year (ESY) Program is for students who require consistency in order to maintain and continue social, behavioral and academic growth. The continuation of a successful school program into the summer months has been shown to provide the structure and routine some children with disabilities need to avoid regression. That continuity of instruction can also be effective in reducing the recoupment time needed to regain skills. ESY services at Midland are specifically designed to facilitate continuing progress and learning in the summer months.
The extended program operates as a 30-day extension to the school year and our facilities are approved for ESY programs and instruction. The program offered is in keeping with the child’s IEP. Physical education objectives are addressed through our swim program in our fully accessible swimming pool where appropriate for the student, and the curriculum includes outdoor education and other recreational activities that take advantage of the warmer weather.
If you are a parent with questions about ESY or its role in your child’s education, please contact us. We would be happy to provide the information necessary to help determine the appropriateness of the ESY program for your child.
