The Midland Corporation, which provides oversight, strategic direction and policy to guide The Midland School and Midland Adult Services (MAS), announced the re-appointment of Mr. Geoffrey Allen of Red Bank, N.J. as the Board of Trustees Chair to lead the 17-member board, and the appointment of Mr. Peter Phillips of Far Hills, NJ to serve as Vice Chair of the board. These appointments are effective Feb. 2017 to June 2018.
Board Chair, Mr. Allen has over 28 years involvement with Midland. His son is an alumnus of The Midland School, resides in a Midland Group Home, participates in the Midland job coaching program, and continues to be active with the Midland School Alumni Association.
Mr. Allen joined the Midland Adult Services Board of Trustees in 2000 and joined the Midland Corporation Board in June, 2006. An avid supporter of the organization, he volunteered in many different ways over the years. Mr. Allen currently serves as Chairman of The Midland Corporation, and serves on the Executive Committee, Finance / Audit Committee, former Co-Chair of the Governance / Membership Committee, Facility / Technology Committee, Quality Assurance Committee and Strategic Planning / Personnel Committee.
Board Vice Chair, Mr. Phillips also has a long association with Midland dating back three decades. Two of Mr. Phillip’s children graduated from Midland School, and his daughter currently works at the Midland Adult Services employment center. His son resides in a Midland group home.
Mr. Phillips was an original member of the Midland Advanced Programs (MAP) Board of Trustees in 1987 until June of 2000 where he became a member of the Midland Adult Services combined Board. He became a member of the Midland School Board in April 2008 and joined the Midland Corporation Board in June 2012. During his years on the MAS and School Board, he served as Board Finance Officer. He is currently Chair of the Finance / Audit Committee and a member of the Executive and also Strategic Planning / Personnel Committees.
Mr. Allen is Executive Vice President and National Professional Services Practice Leader, FINEX North America Practice of Willis Towers Watson, Short Hills, NJ. Prior to Willis Towers Watson, Mr. Allen was President, Minet Global Media Services and Global Specialty Coordinator Professional Liability reporting to the Chairman of Minet. Mr. Allen received his BA from Franklin & Marshall College. Mr. Allen was a visiting Fellow in Finance and Risk Management at the Media Center, New York Law School. He is a frequent national and international speaker on risk and insurance for Professional Services Firms and the evolving Cyber threat.
Before his retirement, Mr. Phillips was founder and owner of Byram Healthcare Centers, Inc. He began his career as an accountant while attending college in the evening by working for a small local CPA firm in Jersey City, NJ. Upon receiving his college degree accepted a position with Ernst & Ernst (now Ernst & Young) and is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of New Jersey. Mr. Phillips is the current Treasurer and Member of PLANNJ Board of Directors. He is also former Treasurer and Member of the Board of Directors of Allies and the former Chairman and current member of Regional Family Support Planning Council #3 established by the NJ Legislature to advise the Department of Developmental Disabilities about the community needs of disabled individuals.
